About Our Guest
Liz Maute Cooke is a native Oklahoman turned New Orleanian. Her graphic design career started with markers and scrap paper when she was just 6 years old and “borrowing” supplies from her mom’s office supply cabinet.
In middle school, she turned note-passing into an art form. But it wasn’t until her mid-20s that Liz realized she could turn her favorite thing to do into The Thing She Does.
In May 2014, royalties from a little sketch Liz did on a plane helped send her to study typography in Rome with the School of Visual Art. She got to learn from design heroes like Steven Heller and Louise Fili.
Since then, Liz has embarked on what she calls her DIY MFA, taking workshops with master letterers all over the world to improve her craft. She also gives workshops on the basics of brush pen lettering, digitizing artwork, and taught a DIY Stationery e-class for Brit + Co.
When she’s not creating new products, she’s dreaming up new ways to help people go after what they believe in. Liz lives in uptown New Orleans, with her husband, Drew Cooke, their menagerie of two dogs and three cats.
